Alternative Edges to Lace

Many people love the softness of our cut edge veils as they blend in with dresses so well and are great for a barely there look, however lots of our brides want something that is a little bit more finished. We have plenty of lace options but sometimes lace just isn't right either!

We've added quite a few different veil edge finishes to our collection recently so I thought I would explain the differences.

Soutache

Soutache or Russian braid is a type of thin cord that is often used in military uniforms and stitched down in a pattern for a beautiful textured effect. We use this braid on our gorgeous Nyla veil, we always have Ivory in stock but it comes in many different colours and even in metallic finishes! It has a lovely sheen and creates a soft curve around the edges of the veil, this style looks amazing with any style of dress and as it's so simple yet effective.braid edge veil

Pencil

Pencil edge is similar to the soutache edge but rather than stitching a braid on we use a special type of sewing machine to finish the edges, it is also often referred to as a merrow edge. This look is slightly more delicate than the braid and can also be done in many different colours. Many dresses have this edging on themselves so it's perfect for tying a look together. The veil we use this pencil edging on is called Elsie.pencil edge veil

Horsehair

Don't worry, horsehair veils aren't actually made from horsehair! Horsehair is a type of flexible flat woven braid which is often used in couture and bridal dresses for an amazing full effect at the edge. We had several brides inquire about these veils over the summer and I'm so happy we have it in our collection now, we've just started to receive pictures from our real brides and I can't wait to share them! These veils look incredible with modern structured dresses and have a real wow factor but without being too over the top. Our horsehair edge Atlas veilis a two tier veil in ivory however like most of our veils we can get other colours. In the second photo you can see the difference between our two tier lace edge veil Ada and our Atlas veil - look at that shape!horsehair veilhorsehair and two tier veil

Satin

Satin edged veils are always a classic! A thin strip of ivory satin is stitched around the edge which creates a beautiful ripple which is beautiful and light but creates a lovely movement. You may have seen our real bride Vivienne who has made our Sandy veil famous!satin edge veil

We have a few more edges in our minds for the future but as always if you are looking for a bespoke veil or want something that isn't on our website then please get in touch! We love creating new designs especially when they are inspired by our wonderful brides :)
