Following a chance meeting in Moscow, it was love at first sight for Britten Bride Julia and her groom Dimitrii. The globe-trotting pair, both originally from Russia, were living in different countries when they met whilst working in the capital. Following a romantic proposal, they decided that a multi-lingual wedding in the English countryside was their dream.
Quaint and colourful, the joy and emotion of the sunny summer wedding were caught beautifully in the natural and contemporary style of photographer Helen King.
“She created wonderful photographs of our day. We never doubted that she was the right photographer for us who would capture the best moments of our day. To say that our photos are amazing would not be enough, and our English is not enough to describe how thankful we are!”
Custom-made by their Barcelona atelier, Julia wore a couture bridal gown by wedding dress designer Jesus Peiro, possibly fulfilling the ultimate dream of many a bride-to-be. The attention to detail and bespoke design meant that Julia received a one of kind gown that was the perfect fit for her.
“It was made from scratch… which allowed me to have a couple of changes to the design to make my dress just as I wanted it…Minimalist, elegant, a timeless look. Perfect for a 150 cm tall bride!”
Julia chose our barely there wedding veil ‘Skylar’ to accompany her gown. This gossamer light single tier veil offered a drop and translucency that allowed the exquisite drop back detail of her gown to be seen.
The wedding ceremony took place at Hazel Gap. The rustic and cosy barn venue on the Welbeck Estate in Nottinghamshire was the ideal setting for a quintessentially rural English wedding.
“We wanted to show the beauty of nature throughout our wedding and we loved how the simplicity and location of Hazel Gap reflected this. We were inspired by the baroque style although we didn’t want to lose the beauty of nature in our wedding; that’s why we tried to have lots of flowers and chose Hazel Gap as our venue due to its simplicity and location.”
Fresh and floral, the nature theme of the wedding was continued with flower arrangements by Floral Deco. With blooms and foliage picked straight from an English country garden, the venue was bursting with flowers and greenery. Julia's bouquet boasted beautiful bright peonies, pastel roses, and textured mixed thistles and grasses, created by florist Rebecca Cadel.
The floral decorations were teamed with the subtle glow of pillar candles and lanterns around the room and along the aisle.
Julia walked down the aisle alone to Pachelbel’s Canon in D, greeted by her father on one side and groom Dmitrii on the other.
Following the ceremony, the wedding party sat down to a tremendous feast, inspired by international flavours and cuisine, including salmon blinis and a mixed grill. The guests were also treated to a palate-cleansing dessert in the form of refreshing lemon sorbet with shots of iced vodka.
Indulgent and sumptuous, the newlyweds had chosen an amazing three-tier cake in shades of gold, pale pink and ivory, monogrammed with their initials and decorated with fresh flowers, made by The Sweet Stuff
The light interior of the barn was completely filled with flower garlands and table arrangements, accented by vintage gold and brass vases, jugs, and candlesticks, nodding to the luxurious and opulent baroque styling of Julia and Dmitrii's choosing.
“Flowers are essential for any wedding, they make a dramatic change to a venue. They might be expensive but it’s a key to a fairytale. A week before the wedding we added more flowers and that was the wisest decision.”
In the evening, Julia and Dmitrii danced to Lonestar’s Amazing for their first dance (complete with a dry ice machine, no less, for extra atmosphere!) and there was more fun from Navi, a Michael Jackson tribute artist!
If Julia could share one piece of advice with soon to be brides, it would be this:
“Share responsibilities, you don’t have to do everything yourself (like we did)! A wisdom that my maid of honour Kate told me in the morning, ‘Your wedding day will fly so fast, don’t forget to enjoy it!’ It is true, so on the day forget planning and thinking, just enjoy the moment.”
Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful images by Helen King with us Julia and Dmitrii. Your wedding day looked truly magical and romantic, and we wish you both so much happiness for your future together.
